What is 'Sounds Live'?

Sounds Live is a live-to-air music festival broadcast on 2MCE-FM community radio from studios on the Charles Sturt University campus in Bathurst, NSW Australia.

"Sounds Live" was awarded the 2009 National Winner of the "Most Innovative Outside Broadcast", at the Community Broadcasting Assoc. of Australia's National Conference, held in Brisbane (QLD) last November.

"Sounds Live" Objectives:

1. Provide a live performance opportunity for local musicians
2. Provide a programming alternative, and an entertaining and vital listening experience for our audience
3. Raise the profile of 2MCE in the community
4. Work collaboratively/develop partnerships with other local organisations
5. Engage 2MCE presenters in special event broadcasting

Live music venues in Bathurst are few and far between, and musicians struggle to find a venue where they can preform original live music. Local pubs will book a band for Saturday nights, but their audience mostly prefer a set of covers over originals.

With this in mind, 'Sounds Live' was devised by 2MCE-FM to offer a live performance opportunity on the radio for local musicians.

There is an annual week-long live-to-air "Sounds Live Festival", which includes a live launch event, concerts, cabarets, choir, workshops and performances from local musicians from both the 2MCE studios and local villages. 25th September – 1st October 2010.

There is also a weekly one-hour live-to-air program on 2MCE, "Sounds Live Radio". Each Wednesday night (9-10 pm AEST), the Sounds Live team puts to air a local musician or ensemble performing in concert format, live from the studios.

Catherine Britt

Catherine Britt has recently released ‘I Want You Back’, the third single to media from her latest album, the ARIA and CMAA nominated "Catherine Britt". It follows her two #1 singles ‘Can’t Change A Thing’ and the globally critically acclaimed ‘Sweet Emmylou’.

She came into the studios at 2MCE for "Sounds Live Radio" to talk and perform for us, and you can hear her tonight (25th May 2011) on the "Sounds Live Radio" program on 2MCE-FM.

‘I Want You Back’ is co-written by Britt and album co-producer Bill Chambers. In fact, this cracking, bluesy, up-tempo number was the first song they ever wrote together.

“After talking about if for years I finally sat down with Bill to write. We were trying to write something we thought was cool & bluesy for the record and this song was the result. Bill’s a great song writer and I can’t believe it took me 10 years to finally sit down, all be it in his garage, and write with him,” says Britt.

The music video for ‘I Want You Back’ will be directed by multi-award winning producer Duncan Toombs.

Catherine Britt is touring extensively throughout the next couple of months, including shows with Shane Nicholson, Luke Austen, Jetty Road and from July, James Blundell on the ‘Can’t Find Our Way Home’ tour which will be presented be CMC. She performs at Lithgow Golf Club on June 17th, as part of that tour.

Bob Dengate

It is with much sadness that long-standing family member of 2MCE, Bob Dengate, passed away on Sunday morning.

Our most sincere condolences to Kay and all their family.

We love and miss you, Bob.

Bob ... you once said this was the song you wanted to be remembered by forever, we will never forget you and you will always be loved by your family, friends and the 2MCE family.

It is with great sadness that 2MCE announce the passing of Robert Dengate.

He died peacefully during the morning of Sunday 6th March 2011 after a battle with Cancer.

Bob Dengate was a Charles Sturt University lecturer and Life Member of 2MCE. He was deeply committed to community radio and in particular to 2MCE. He will be most remembered as founding father of the long running program Saturday Night Jukebox and was known as ‘The Big Bobber’ - derived from the famous US DJ/singer/songwritter J P Richardson known as ‘The Big Bopper’. The Jukey program celebrated its 19th anniversary just a few weeks ago during which Bob spoke to listeners for the final time. He also broadcast both classical and popular music but his great love was for the music of the 1960’s and he had an extensive knowledge of the works and times of The Beatles.

Bob was a mentor and guide to countless numbers of young and not so young presenters at 2MCE. It was only recently that he hung up his microphone and headphones on his Thursday Morning Music and Fried Brekky programs.

Bob’s other great passion was for the world of sport. Bordering on the fanatical Bob could speak with authority and with encyclopedic knowledge on all sports.

His influence in the education field is legendary - as a teacher and academic - always remembered as kind and supportive in the classroom with extensive influence in academia through education journals, syllabus design and professional development.

His mellifluous voice will of course be fondly remembered and he will be sadly missed by the 2MCE family - station staff, presenters and listeners.

Our deepest sympathy goes to his wife Kay and to Bob’s family.

Inland Sea of Sound Festival 2011

World musicians start arriving in Bathurst on April 10 to celebrate The Inland Sea of Sound Festival.

The Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre is gearing up for its second World Music event in the region, after sell out concerts in 2010.

Throughout the week of April 10-16, The Inland Sea of Sound Festival will bring music and films from across the world to the backyards of Bathurst and BMEC concert stages.

Artistic Director Aaron Hopper says “we have programmed a truly world class musical and cultural feast. We will be treated to music from Africa, Belgium, Japan, Ireland, Spain, Eastern Europe and Australia.”

The impressive line-up of world musicians include the Gypsy band Lolo Lovina; Micheline Van Hautem who presents La Musique of Jacques Brel; The Sawai Koto Ensemble; Mara and Llew Kiek, as well as world music acts from the region.

The festival will commence with a community event in Machattie Park themed ‘The Around the World in 100-Miles Picnic’. Throughout the week, regional world music artists will endeavour to enchant audiences in backyard concerts, whilst headlining acts prepare to lift the roof off BMEC concert stages. This year’s festival will also include a World Music Film Marathon showcasing selected films, taking audiences on a stimulating journey across the world with one beat.

Adult tickets start from $38, however festival organisers are encouraging people to purchase tickets early and consider a full festival pass at $80, a saving of $21. BMEC members will receive an additional discount. “The festival pass is a great way to guarantee seats and access to all venues and concerts throughout the event”, Manager of BMEC, Stephen Champion said, “after such a huge turn out last year, we expect an overwhelming response, which means spaces will be limited.”

Their latest album, 'A Quartet for Car Horns and Brakes' was produced by Paul Grabowsky and was released in February 2010.

Renny M. on Sounds Live Radio

This week on "Sounds Live Radio" (Wednesday 4th August 2010, 9pm), we feature local singer/songwriter Renny M. Make sure you catch this vibrant musical treat on your 2MCE-FM - 92.3 in Bathurst, 94.7 in Orange, or listen live streamed online.

Renny M. is a singer/song writer from Sydney, Australia, but is currently living in Orange, NSW. Her music is acoustic folk in style, and she enjoys the simplicity and bareness of voice with acoustic guitar. Many of her songs have developed during her travels in the last couple of years to countries such as Peru, Argentina and the United States.

It is only in the last couple of years that she has focused her energy on song writing, and in 2009, she completed her first demo in Portland, Oregan, USA. In 2009, she began to perform local gigs in Orange, such as ‘Four on the Floor’, a monthly open mic night, and Hotel Orange acoustic Thursday nights. Furthermore, in October 2009, she travelled to the Mungindi Music Festival on the border of NSW/QLD and was awarded second place in the Mungindi Idol Performance Competition. In January 2010, Renny M supported local Orange band ‘The Southern Green’ at their gig at the Canobolas Hotel, and later that month she travelled to the Tamworth Country Music Festival and supported ‘The Southern Green’ at the West’s Diggers RSL.

Currently, while working on her second demo, Renny M. has undertaken Certificate 4 in Music at Orange Tafe, to develop both her performance technique and song writing capability. She also plans to complete a music video in 2010 with her good friend Tonette Stanford, who is an award winning film maker from Sydney.

This week on Sounds Live Radio, we present Rose Turtle Ertler, recorded live at BMEC last Saturday afternoon, by the Sounds Live Radio team (thanks Mark!)

In 2000, ROSE TURTLE ERTLER plugged her ukulele into a multi FX guitar pedal. She kept doing this for at least five years, until she learnt to play the ukulele like a ukulele instead of like a little guitar.

She stills loves tacky programmed drums, theremin and random analog electronic beeps and buzzes, but doesn't use these so much in live shows anymore.

Lately, Rose has also been playing banjo, ukulele banjo an autoharp called a Victalele made in Melbourne. All Rose's instruments happen to be made in the 30s and 40s.

Recorded live and 'unplugged' in Studio 4 at 2MCE-FM in Bathurst last Thursday afternoon was Sydney quartet "Lovers Jump Creek".

They will be our featured artist this week on "Sounds Live Radio" (14th July 2010), along with tracks from their soon-to-be-released EP.

Lovers Jump Creek are not the kind of band you can hide in the corner of a pub and ignore. With an aggressively catchy style, the boys play a show with energy, passion, and most importantly a good helping of fun. Currently putting the finishing touches on a new demo for release sometime 2010, the guys are excited to be getting their sound accessible to a wider audience. The band recently took out first place in Hornsby Hotshots band comp, and look forward to using this and the numerous other great shows they have played this year as a platform to move on to bigger and better things. If you take even the slightest liking to any of their songs, it is well worth your time to check them out live - you will not be let down.

You're invited to join the Sounds Live Choir for two Vocal Workshops, with renowned choral teacher Rachel Hore.

Then we meet for weekly rehearsals with Tracey Callinan for 10 weeks, starting Thursday June 10th.
Thursdays 6.00 - 7.30pm

Workshops and rehearsals held at BMEC, William St, Bathurst.

The Sounds Live Choir will perform at the Local Stages Soiree at BMEC on the 18th August 2010, as part of the 2010 "Sounds Live Festival".

The Sounds Live Choir is supported by Local Stages.

Chase the Sun

Performing live for you this Wednesday evening (12th May 2010) are Australian musicians Claude Hay, Cass Eager and 'Chase the Sun'. All three performed live here in Bathurst at 'Sounds Live Radio' and at one of the local licensed venues as well late last week.

Hailing from Sydney’s Blue Mountains, blues and roots solo artist Claude Hay is a rarity in today’s musical landscape; laying down a modern version of what, in another age, would have been called a one man band. Claude fuses slide guitar, sitar, bass and electronic percussion in a loop-driven edge-of-the-seat live show that invokes the best of stomping trad blues with funk-dance edge that is making people’s ears stand up and take notice.

Cass Eager’s sound travels the gamut from soul to blues, folk to funk and roots to reggae. Her distinctive pipes and guitar playing have drawn comparisons to everyone from Bonnie Raitt to Jack Johnson, Nina Simone and Ben Harper . . . with a hint of Janis Joplin always thrown in. Despite these comparisons, ‘soul sister Cass is no pale imitation’ (NDL). She’s been described as ‘one of Sydney’s most gifted singer songwriters, whose refreshingly honest, raspy, almost Joplin-esque like voice is hers alone, and whose eclectic songwriting will spellbind the listener.’ (Drum Media). On stage, Cass is armed with an acoustic and lap steel guitar, electric ukulele and stompbox.

Since forming in 2006, bluesy rock trio Chase The Sun have gone hard and got a lot done in a short time, spending no time amassing widespread critical acclaim for their soul-tinged song writing, blues sensibilities and the powerhouse live delivery of guitar star-on-the-rise Jan Rynsaardt. Combining elements of old-school acoustic blues, Stevie Ray Vaughan boogie, hillbilly finger picking and Hendrix flash; three-piece Chase The Sun crank out a new take on a classic sound.

Appearing on Sounds Live Radio' this Wednesday night (5th May 2010) is Cowra country/folk singer-songwriter Melissa Robertson.

Sydney born Melissa Robertson is a country-folk singer songwriter who began singing solo's at the age of 16 representing her school in regional concerts, musicals and music camps.

Melissa studied singing with Mrs Joan Ford completing her 5th grade in Ameb, and continued learning Arias. Melissa won 2nd prize in the City of Penrith Eisteddfod in 1986 and 2nd prize in the Cowra Eisteddfod in 1990 and 1992. She became a country girl when she moved to regional NSW, her love for the land and her passions for country and folk music grew when she began writing her own songs about her life experiences.

Melissa has participated at the Country Music Muster, is a member of the Folk Alliance and the Tamworth Songwriters Association. In January she was became the inaugural winner of the Wattle Flat Country Music Awards. This year Melissa won 3rd prize in the Grenfell Henry Lawson Busking Competition and submitted her song RIDE OF YOUR LIFE to the 29th Australian Songwriting Associations Contest and was shortlisted!

Melissa launched her EP 'RIDE OF YOUR LIFE' in October 2009. She is currently in the process of recording her debut album.

Sounds Live is set to sizzle in 2010 with more live music events, workshops and a visit to the villages. It all happens live on 2MCE during August and September, in and around Bathurst (NSW Australia).

Plans are well underway for the staging of Sounds Live Festival 2010 (25th September – 1st October 2010) and the advisory committee has put forward some exciting new features for this year’s festival.

Keith Manning plays tabla, pakhawaj, bamboo flutes, esraj, tanpura, all sorts of percussion, drum kit, concert flute.

Over the past two weeks, "Sounds Live Radio" has highlighted live performances from artists who will be featuring in the Inland Sea of Sound Festival, right here in Bathurst from April 11th to 17th.

This week (7 April 2010) "Sounds Live Radio" features a performance by "Fretworx" - five of Bathurst's up and coming young guitarists performing the music of Japanese composer Isato Nakagawa, French composer Yann Tiersen and Australian composer Aaron Hopper.

Also appearing this week will be Bathurst local Keith Manning, featuring his amazing performance on Indian tabla, on which he is an internationally-renown player.

It's a HUGE month ahead for "Sounds Live Radio"!

Over the next three weeks, we have performances from artists who will be featuring in the Inland Sea of Sound Festival, right here in Bathurst in April.

Last Wednesday night (24 March 2010) from 9-10pm on "Sounds Live Radio" we have, live-in-the-studio, a performance by local bluegrass duo "Fat Wombat".

This week (31 March 2010) 'Sounds Live Radio' have "Sumharmonic", with Aaron Hopper on guitar, Rob Shannon on guitar, and Dale Tuckey on soprano sax. Three locals with a wealth of international experience. Their original music is steeped in the influences of Indian classical music, jazz & folk. It ranges from high energy spontaneous improvisation to sublime, jazz tinged classical compositions.

The third week (7 April 2010) "Sounds Live Radio" features a performance by "Fretworx" - five of Bathurst's up and coming young guitarists performing the music of Japanese composer Isato Nakagawa, French composer Yann Tiersen and Australian composer Aaron Hopper.

We heard a blistering set from Lancelot's Pram on the last Sounds Live Radio program. Mal's energy, passion, and talent combined for a great set. Last week the gastro bug kept us away, but the team of Michelle, Mark and Keith return this week to host a live set from Fat Wombat. We first heard this folk/bluegrass duo at the Sounds Live Cabaret in August and look forward to hearing more from them this Wednesday from 9pm AEST on 2MCE.

Spent a couple of hours with Tim Roebuck on Friday listening to the recordings from Sounds Live Cabaret and Sounds Live Festival. With generous support from the Federal Government through AMRAP and the Community Broadcast Foundation 2MCE is producing a compilation cd of artists from Sounds Live for distribution via AMRAP to community radio stations across Australia. There are some great sounds from the festival and the CD will be a cracker. Stay tuned to your local community radio station to hear Sounds Live...the CD.

Thanks to Richard Newell and the Emotional Park Vandals for a great live-to-air from studio 4 last night. Thanks also to the supurb Tim Roebuck for setting all the levels. Great sound from the band in studio 4...see you can play with a snare and brushes! The guitarist drove from Sydney to Bathurst for the live-to-air and then turned around and drove all the way back again...that's extreme comitment and dedication. Much appreciation and thanks from 2MCE. All original tunes from the Emotional Park Vandals. Gee, we're hearing some fantastic music on Sounds Live. What a Weekend!

Hope you were with us for the launch of Sounds Live. What a huge weekend! The festival kicked off with a live studio performance from Glen & the Zen Men...smooth jazz tunes and great sax. Then I raced to BMEC for the Sounds Live Cabaret. The evening's host 'Bright Eyes' was absolutely hilarious...I laughed all night. Bluegrass duo 'Fat Wombat' opened the night. Then we heard a new classical piece for kazoo and slide whistle from Michelle Griffin. Eight Dollar Orchestra rocked the stage before interval. Guitarist Aaron Hopper silenced the room with his beautiful playing. EQD played funky tunes with theatrical accompaniment from hula-hoopers and jugglers. Spoken word artist Miles Merrill was 'wow'. And B-DUB kept the decks spinning with dubb'n beats.

Sunday was Sounds Live Acoustic which turned into a lovely afternoon of original acoustic sounds. Lancelot's Pram jumped into proceedings with a rousing performance. Amber Cashell was brilliant...and that harp was awesome! Margie-May Hockey bought tears to our eyes with her dedication song to the victims of the Victorian bush fires. Noni bought out her shiny new keyboard for her first live performance. Anita Willey is great fun. And Tony Robinson did what Tony Robinson does best.

Now in full swing, Sounds Live takes over the 2MCE airwaves for the rest of the week. Tune in today from 4pm AEST for Cheryl McKellar and tonight from 8pm for Emotional Park Vandals. Stream at www.2mce.org.

Tim has operated Tim Roebuck Audio Productions since 1993. He has extensive experience in live sound reinforcement including 4 years at the National Folk Festival and 2 years at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. He has been contracted for sound engineer work at various live music venues in the Central West including the Mitchell Conservatorium of Music. Tim was employed as the audio technician at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre for 3 years. Tim has extensive experience in commercial CD production including recording, mixing and mastering in live, and studio environments. And, he's an all-round nice guy! Tim Roebuck is a great friend of 2MCEs and we appreciate his sharing of knowledge. Tim will be mixing sound for the live broadcast of Sounds Live Cabaret and Sounds Live Acoustic and recording for the cd compilation.

Mal Kiely has been playing various stringed instruments bass and guitar) since the mid-1980's, playing with many professional bands in both Sydney and the Central West. Recording two CD-albums and touring NSW and VIC with "Surprise", and constantly gigging (over 200+) and recording with bands such as Party Cones, Menace, Think Big, October and Montage, as well as much studio, radio and live session work in many diverse styles has left Mal with some interesting experiences - and stray grey hairs! His fun sense of absurd humour features in all his live performances. Mal simply enjoys playing music... and sharing the simple joys, passion and fun of it all with people he plays to. Cheryl and her Guitar

Cheryl McKellar performed as part of the duo Natchez at Sounds Live in 2008 and returns as a solo artist for the live music festival this year. Cheryl is a current member of Swing Factor - Bathurst High Stage Band, Fretworx - Mitchell Conservatorium guitar group and the Bathurst High Concert Band where she actually plays flute. Cheryl has managed to place 2nd in the Performing Arts Challenge in Sydney in 2007 and 2008 as well as winning sections for guitar at Bathurst Eisteddfod over the years. Cheryl currently holds a Mitchell Conservatorium of Music scholarship. In 2008 completed her AMEB Grade 8 Classical Guitar exam, achieving a grade A - Honours. She is currently studying for her HSC and the AMEB AMusA exam later this year. You can hear Cheryl play guitar on 2MCE for Sounds Live, Monday 3rd August from 4pm. Catch her, she's great.

In The Studio Today

Glen & The Zen Men came into the studio today to help me out with testing some new equipment. Well not really the whole band, more just the Zen Men - the very knowledgable Mark and 2MCE's favourite Raga playing presenter Keith. Adam was there also (he's assistant producer for Sounds Live). After Sounds Live in 2008, 2MCE's studio 4 was renovated to accomodate live-to-air music performances. This will be the first time we've hosted live music in the studio. You can hear Glen & The Zen Men live on 2MCE (on your radio or computer) on Saturday 1st August from 6pm. The band are:
Glen Wholohan- Alto Saxophone and Clarinet
Glen was introduced to the clarinet at the age of ten and has played it ever since. Learning the saxophone was a natural progression. In 2004 he played 1st Alto Saxophone in the UNE Stage Band and The Armidale Jazz Club. Glen has also been involved in various performances throughout the Bathurst Community including most recently; the Carillion Musical Society's production of 'Les Miserables' (where he played Baritone Saxophone) and will play clarinet in the Macquarie Philharmonia perfomance for the 'Classical Mystery Tour'.
Keith Manning – Drums
Keith’s first love is the Indian Tabla, which he played in the 1970’s fusion band “Kanguru”, and other notables such as Guy Strazz. A Jazz enthusiast for over 50 years, playing kit drums is a new direction for him.
Martin Hayes – Guitar
Martin has played guitar since 1977, with a strong emphasis on Jazz guitar since 2002 when he studied under Steve McKenna. A Bathurst resident since 2005, he holds an architecture degree and hosts “Free Association” on Mondays on 2MCE.
Mark Wallace – Bass
Mark moved to Bathurst from the Sydney rock scene in December 08, and is enjoying the move back to Jazz after 12 years of late, loud pub gigs. Mark also has experience in Theatrical orchestras and swing music, and is also a keen pianist.

I spoke with the wonderful Patricia Cruzado from the Orana Country Music Club this week to source a country music artist for Sounds Live Acoustic. I've liaised with Patricia before when I worked as a music correspondent for AMRAP and produced a radio piece on country music. Well Patricia got on the blower straight away and did the rounds of the Club's members. Result, we have young Margie-May Hockey performing at Sounds Live Acoustic on Sunday. Margie-May was recently named Overall Junior Champion at the Macarthur Country Music Championships in June 2009. She was a finalist in the CCMA talent quest in both Best Young Talent Vocal 13 years and under and Junior Gospel 13 years and under, and was awarded the Barry Thornton Memorial Award for Best Young Talent, at Tamworth, January 2009. And that's not all...in 2007 Margie-May was invited by and performed with Troy Casser-Daley at his show in Dubbo at the Dubbo RSL, after he saw her perform in Tamworth at the festival that year. What a day! This morning I had three acts confirmed for Sounds Live Acoustic on Sunday 2nd August, and by the end of the day we've got seven acts confirmed for the gig. We're very pleased to welcome Tony Robinson to Sounds Live 2009. Tony is much loved by music fans in Bathurst and has recently had a successful cd launch at the beautiful Carrington venue. No point me trying to describe how good Tony is...you'll have to hear it for yourself at Tony's myspace site.
Tony Robinson will perform for Sounds Live Acoustic at the Ponton Theatre on Saturday 2nd August (doors open at 1:30pm for a 2:00pm start). Tickets are $5 individual or $10 family and are available at the 2MCE office or at the door. See you there.

Frantically organising Sounds Live Acoustic. Got the word today that Amber Cashell is confirmed for Sounds Live Acoustic. Amber is currently in the studio recording her next album so hopefully we'll hear something from the new release at the Acoustic gig. Sounds Live Acoustic will be held in the Ponton Theatre on Sunday 2nd August from 2-4pm (doors open 1:30ish). Tickets from 2MCE on 6338 4790. Anita Willey to Play Acoustic

Anita Willey is a solo guitarist and singer/songwriter based in Bathurst, and first act confirmed for Sounds Live Cabaret. Anita's music delivers acoustic arrangements combining melodic folk tunes with strong rock beats. With influences ranging from classic seventies folk/rock to more contemporary artists, her self-penned songs flawlessly weave together vivid storytelling, strong imagery and a down-to-earth humour. Drawing on her work with refugees and nomadic life experiences, Anita's songs narrate diverse social themes.

Just checking out the Fat Wombat mypsace site and like what I hear. Fat Wombat are Mick Moffitt and Cate McCarthy, both experienced musicians living in Bathurst. Mick plays mandolin, fiddle, mandola and guitar. Cate sings and plays old time guitar and banjo. Fat Wombat are seasoned Cabaret performers and will feature at Sounds Live Cabaret on August 1st at BMEC.

My desk is piled with demo cds and bios of artists available to perform during Sounds Live. Today I've got the pleasurable task of listening to all this great music and begin scheduling for our live music festival week. Some interesting submissions I didn't expect came from 2MCE's very own Noni Kuhner (aka The Shadow Dancer), new to Bathurst Anita Willey and singer/songwriter Lancelot's Pram. Sounds Live Cabaret

2MCE is teaming up with Local Stages at BMEC to present the Sounds Live Cabaret on 1 August which will be broadcast live. For the first time at a Cabaret, friends and family from across the world will be able to experience the Cabaret via internet streaming from 2MCE. The bands playing will be recorded and 2MCE will produce a cd of Bathurst music for community radio across Australia. The Local Stages program supports the development of performing arts practice, and the Cabarets are wonderful opportunities for local performers and audience to experience our own 'homegrown' talent.

The Cabaret will be hosted by 'Bright Eyes' Mr Phil Glen, and along with guests Mr Aaron Hopper, Michelle Griffin, EQD, Fat Wombat and others it will bring together Bathurst's best music, comedy and physical performers. The special guest is legendary verse spinner, Miles Merrill, who brought poetry slams from his hometown Chicago, to Australia. Merrill mixes spoken-word with surreal vocal FX and intense narratives. As a multi-award winning writer and performer, he has presented in Krakow's Audio Art Festival, dozens of international writer festivals, three times at the Sydney Opera House and at hundreds of venues throughout Australia and the United States. Merrill has published on two CDs a DVD and in several literary journals including The Penguin Anthology of Australian Poetry.

Big news...2MCE has secured a grant from the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) to record a cd of the Sounds Live concerts. We'll record the Sounds Live Cabaret and Sounds Live Acoustic concerts and master a compilation cd of local artisits for distrubition nationally via the Community Radio Network. The funding supports the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP) which promotes great Australian music to community radio. Get ready to hear the sounds of Bathurst. Thanks AMRAP and CBF.

2MCE introduced Sounds Live in 2008, featuring more than 20 musicians from Bathurst and Orange on the radio. Let's do it again!
Sounds Live returns in 2009 featuring two live concerts for the local community. I've been negotiating with Kylie Shead the Creative Producer for Local Stages about holding a Sounds Live Cabaret and can now confirm the launch event for Sounds Live will be Saturday 1st August at BMEC in a cabaret style. Still finalising details but can reveal the theme will be old-time 40's radio.
